Catt Burton, Guest Speaker

Catherine “Catt” Burton is a proud two-time graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a B.A. in Political Science in 1987 and a J.D. in 1990. Catt started her legal career at the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office from June 1988 until Jan 1996. She then went into private practice with John W. Coyle until October 2003. After that, she ran her own firm until Dec 31, 2006. On January 2, 2007, Catt’s husband, Scott Anderson, took over her firm so that she could go back into public service. Since then, she has been a team leader at the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, where she now supervises all Diversion Programs (Drug Court, Mental Health Court, DUI Court, Women’s REMERGE, Female Diversion, and others). In 2011, she started the Oklahoma County Veterans’ Diversion Program, a true diversion program and the only 1 of its’ kind in the nation. This program has been running successfully since. In March 2020, she was part of the team who created and started the Oklahoma County Veterans’ Treatment Court!

Catt is a Master in the William J. Holloway American Inn of Court, a Fellow with the OBA, a long-time member of the OUJI-CR committee, and a member of the Review Board for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. She is a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where she is a lector and Eucharistic minister. She and Scott have a 15-year old daughter, Delaney Reese, who is in ninth grade at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School.

Catt loves public service and hopes that she is remembered by her family as a loving wife and mother, by her community as someone who was always willing to help others, and by her profession as someone who conducted herself with civility. She believes we could all learn a lot from Robert Fulghum’s book, “All I Really Need to Know I learned in Kindergarten.”
